How to beat Online Limit Holdem

Post your LHE hands and strategy here.

Postby SNGfan » Sun May 14, 2006 1:15 pm

I came across this sticky while browsing the forum and I really liked all the info that you guys put together. Next thing I read was the auto-rate rules sticky for LHE and I decided to give limit a try again.

It has been almost 9 months since I last played it. I was curious about how low my VPIP would be and how much I would make following the outline.

Well after 100 hands Im at 5.88 VPIP and only 3% PFR. My cards were kind of cold but I did get paid of most of the hands I hit. My BB/100 was 5.42.

Not without a bad beat either. My set of 9's had to be folded on the river when the 4th spade hit on the river and my 2 opponents went bonkers with the old 3s vs the Js raisefest.

Nice strategy and I will play some more tomorrow. Im thinking my VPIP will be around 9-11 with a larger sample. Basically Im staying out of trouble by leaving the garbage alone. Im thinking about grinding out some bonus using this outline.

What limits is this? Also leaving the garbage alone isn't neccesarily right, I'd play stuff like limping J10s early at these limits and all pocket pairs everywhere since they will pay nonstop

By garbage Im talking about high offsuit trouble hands like QT/KT/JQ/AT from EP. From a latter position I will take a flop with at least 2 already in with any pair and Im a fan of JTs from LP.

Most of my hands were at .5/1 on Bet365 but I did play some .05/.10 after I drank a bunch of vodka and beers :P

*edit*

Played another session (2.5 hrs) and the numbers were almost the same, 5.83 BB/100 at mostly .05/.10, .10/.20 and .25/.50

To the person that emailed about some questions on this post I will have to answer you here as my email server has been randomly deleting emails at times and yours was one of them.

The guidelines that I gave in the beginning are pretty much how I play although I am a little bit freer in late position coming in with some hands. Also against certain players in certain situations I might deviate quite a bit from "normal" play.

I'm fairly new to online poker, and play only Texas Hold 'Em. This thread has been a great help to me but I still must be doing something wrong. Even when using these preflop strategies I am losing money. Every time. Well, almost every time. I rarely finish a session with more than I started with. I don't think that losing money is the goal here, even playing very low limits to learn the ropes, so where do I go next?

Perhaps you might have some post flop problems that are hurting you or maybe leakages from blind play or any number of other things as common place as you are just having an extended period of bad luck (In the not to distant past I had a run of over 85K hands of breakeven limit holdem poker). Perhaps the easiest way to address potential problems is to post some of your hands in the forum so we can have a look at what might be going wrong. Better luck.

Ok. Once I get Poker Tracker registered I will save a session and get some examples of my frustration.

Post some hand histories so the more experienced players here can critique your play. I also think it's valuable to get software like Pokertracker so you can see what hands are profitable for you and which aren't.

Any of you guys out there that play limit over a cake, does this strategy prove to be successful? I was thinking of playing some limit to clear some bonus money, but I don't wanna lose my shirt. This thread had not been commented on in awhile, so I was just wondering if this is still a valid strategy in the post frist poker world. Thanks!

I would say so. It's a basic training wheels approach. Cake is chock full of bad players and this strategy should have you entering few pots, but with the edge over your less discerning opponents.

Thanks anteye! My limit game has never really gotten off the ground, and I am sucking donkey balls at NL20 on cake at the moment, so some training wheels tight play might get me out of my funk. I need to work on my postflop play as well.

Post some HH's in this section and the couple of old geizers that hang out in here (including myself) will gladly offer up some advice.

I have played enough hands, and gathered just enough of a clue to screw you up royaly if you listen to me

I stick my head in here for a sec, and your still spouting the same stuff you were 3-4 years ago. "I Think I know what i'm doing, but don't really listen to me!" :P
